The British series Adolescence , which deals with the ravages of masculinist content on social networks on young people, will be offered as a teaching aid from the 4th grade , announced the Minister of Education, Elisabeth Borne, on Sunday, June 8.

Interviewed on LCI , Ms Borne explained that the producer of the series broadcast on Netflix had "opened the rights" to the Ministry of National Education, which would therefore "offer five educational sequences to young people based on this series" .

These extracts from the mini-series, already shown in British middle and high schools , are "very representative of the violence that can exist among young people" , and can be viewed "with educational support from the fourth grade onwards" , the Minister of Education specified.

Spark debate

Across the Channel, Downing Street announced at the end of March that the series would be broadcast in British middle and high schools to spark debate and try to "prevent young boys from being drawn into a whirlwind of hatred and misogyny" .

Such media aims to help raise awareness of the problem of "overexposure to screens and the trivialization of violence on these social networks" as well as the spread of so-called masculinist theories, misogynistic spheres that advocate violence against women, argues Elisabeth Borne.

The series tells the story of a 13-year-old British boy arrested in his small English town, accused of stabbing one of his classmates to death. Each episode—from his interrogations at the police station to his confrontation with a psychologist—uncovers how this masculinist ideology may have influenced young Jamie, and reveals the shock of those around him and the helplessness of many adults faced with the impact of social media, which they largely ignore.
